Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, is gaining traction fast as an inexpensive alternative to conventional telephonic calls. Under VoIP, there are a number of other network protocols that can be utilized. The two protocols Session Initiation Protocol, or SIP, and Inter-Asterisk eXchange commonly known as IAX, stand out. The major difference between SIP and IAX is that IAX is highly efficient when it uses bandwidth as compared to SIP. It became the main reason behind the creation of IAX. Given a specific bandwidth, using IAX lets you carry a greater number of concurrent phone calls than if you used SIP.
