Define the element/technique, taking care to explain how the element/technique is typically used in a film. Illustrate your discussion of how the element/technique works by giving examples of the technique/element as used in the film you are focusing on and wrote your screening report for in Module Seven Discussion and Sharing Part I. The best answers will go beyond mere facts of plot to touch on the significance of the element/technique, its relationship to the experiences of the central character(s) in the film, and its relation to meaning (themes) and design (structure) of the whole work (film). Therefore, make sure to detail how the technique/element helps tell the story and impacts how the film(s) works as well as how you interpret the film’s overall themes and meaning. A full response focused on the item, yet packed with relevant detail and interpretation of significance is preferable to a redundant, merely descriptive, or loose renarration of incidents from the film(s). Lighting In the movie Memento, mostly natural lighting is used in an exclusive manner. There are scenes shot indoor as well as outdoor and there is the use of both colors namely black and white. The use of natural lighting is done purposely to bring about a sense of reality to the movie. He did not want to give a polished look because real life is not polished. The way Nolan used natural lighting can very well compared to the three-point lighting which other directors’ use. Nolan placed the actors in natural lighting so that he can make the most of it. Most of the movie happens in the daytime so the natural light comes from sunshine that is coming through doors and windows. In the outdoor scenes also, natural lighting is used and additional artificial lighting is not used.
