The two artworks that I have chosen are from the Baroque movement and Romanticism movement. Both of these movements have their distinct features and also they are extremely different from each other. Judith Beheading Holofernes by Caravaggio Judith Beheading Holofernesby Caravaggio is a painting made in 1599. It has been considered as one of the most significant examples of the Baroque movement as this painting has a lot of characteristics of the Baroque movement. This painting has a sharp contrast between light and shadow which represents the tenebrism style during the Baroque movement. The painting also represents a scene from the Bible where Judith, a biblical heroine is in the process of beheading Holofernes who was trying to invade in their land. The painting captures the expressions of Judith and Holofernes perfectly. Where the disgust and anger is clear on Judith’s face, agony and pain can be noticed in Holofernes’ face.
